Perhaps you could run displayconfig-gtk - I believe there was a bug in 8.04
that it didn't have an entry in the menu ("Screens and Graphics"), if so,
you can run it by pressing alt+F2 and running "gksudo displayconfig-gtk".
I believe you could also run "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" in a
terminal window to try and fix that, but I really have too little experience
to be giving you advice on hardware problems so don't do that untell someone
else tells you to do so ;-)
More to come. Isn't this exciting?!?
