Or I might just give it up and burn an xubuntu cd and save myself some pain- but then I won't learn nothin'!</blockquote><div> Perhaps you could run displayconfig-gtk - I believe there was a bug in 8.04 that it didn't have an entry in the menu ("Screens and Graphics"), if so, you can run it by pressing alt+F2 and running "gksudo displayconfig-gtk".
