It sounds like your printer is not set up correctly. There is a
comment here that describes issues just like yours:

See if reducing the resolution fixes your issue.
You may need use a print driver from a model that is compatible. The
link above recommends using this driver:
Recommended Driver: hpijs-pcl5e

Your best approach will be to try using a more common driver. This
may limit the special features, but it should give you a working
printer.
More importantly, fix your attitude about working with Xubuntu and
Linux in general. Nobody asked you to use Xubuntu, you came to this
decision yourself. Take responsibility and understand that you will
have some issues. If you want to work together with us, welcome
aboard. We'll try to help you.
If this experience is not right for you, please stop using Linux. If
you need everything to work out of the box, use MAC OS or Windows OS.
Please don't take your frustration out on us.
