[xubuntu-users] Shutdown Problem

I commonly experience a long wait before a shutdown or reboot (chosen from GUI
menu). If I try to execute a shutdown again, I see the error message,

Session manager must be in idle state when requesting a shutdown.

This occurs even when all programs are not running. I do not have
"Automatically save session on logout" activated in Session Startup settings.
However, after such a shutdown, when rebooting, some applications that were
open before shutdown re-appear AND menus are mangled - running applications do
not appear in the top panel and individual application have missing menu
pull-downs. Some can only be closed with a ctrl-q.

This appears to be a long-standing bug and continues after I just re-installed
Xubuntu 12.04 with all updates.

The menu issue can be repaired by running this command from the CLI:

    xfwm4 --replace

The problem recurs so frequently that I've put the command into an alias!

Fix?

/Roger
