Using 'top', I'm looking at the KiB Mem Row.  For example, on the 
current system I'm on (desktop, 16GB RAM, Xubuntu 13.04) I've got:

KiB Mem:  16177248 total,  4061132 used, 12116116 free,   493072 buffers

On 'htop' I see:

Mem: 1781/15798MB

Not sure what the differences in reporting are.  Obviously, my available 
memory is different in each, but probably the difference between 
reporting bytes and megabytes...I assume.
