[xubuntu-users] Concerning Samba

I recently set up a laptop with Xubuntu 12.04. Yesterday there were some 
updates due for installation. When I tried I had some problem messages 
about samba. I have never used samba, did not even realise it was 
installed. So I deleted samba using synaptic and then was able to 
install the other updates.

My questions - is samba normally installed automatically?

Since I don't use it, will having deleted it cause any problems?
