[xubuntu-users] 7z files in Thunar

I would like to confirm that this is indeed the solution. Thunar hands 
off control of archived files to File-Roller which in turn relies on the 
lib/app support of the specific archive type. p7zip is the official 7zip 
implementation for Linux and the one that File Roller supports.
