Ok, this is just getting worse and worse for me... now the Alternate CD 
has been dropped as well!

Now you're stuck with the slow graphics installer. It does not support a 
manual LVM or RAID install. It also makes it impossible to install on 
some systems where the graphics driver is an issue. This excludes about 
50% of the devices I'd like to install Ubuntu 12.10 on, including my laptop.

My future with Ubuntu is not looking very bright at this stage. :-(
