Well, I went looking a bit more.  First, I was wrong about 96...  It is 
too new.  It looks like the last version to support nvidia-glx-lagacy is 
Hardy. http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy-updates/nvidia-glx-legacy 
However, there is a nvidia-glx-71 in Jaunty... 
http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/nvidia-glx-71  It should support your 
card.  So glad they changed the name to make it more confusing. :)
