I use KDE/Kubuntu, and it's not dead by any means. I also prefer KDE
(nothing on Gnome, I just prefer KDE), but I think that to compare features
of KDE and Gnome is a useless endeavor.

Depends on what "level" of DBA you are. If you're comfortable with SQL, you
might want to look into using SQLite and a frontend like SQLite Browser, or
there's also Kexi, which you'll find in the repositories.

Can't say I have, I'm afraid. I don't know how well Kubuntu or Linux in
general works with touch screens. I presume it depends on the screen input
