This thread is about helping Michael resolve his issue.

If you'd like to discuss using another online translation system, I'd
recommend opening a separate thread, listing in detail what the current
challenges are, how another system would address them, and how it would
satisfy the needs to handle millions of translations for multiple Ubuntu
releases.

I personally find *any* online translation system that enables
collaboration between volunteer translators across the globe to translate a
Free Software operating system or project with a quality and effectiveness
that proprietary systems can only envy amazing, be it Launchpad, Pootle,
Transifex or any other. Every one of them has their strengths, but the fact
that Pootle works for you is not enough reason to replace the existing
system, nor does it give any indication of how that work would be planned
and who would do it.

I'd recommend reading the [Quick Start guide](
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/QuickStartGuide), as most of what I
can explain would be repeating content from there. Also the rest of the
[documentation](https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations) should give you more
insight.

To answer the second question, you can translate Ubuntu here:
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu

This will always take you to the latest translatable version of Ubuntu. If
you translate a message there, and if that message is the same in other
versions of Ubuntu, it will automatically be translated in all of those
releases. This is called message sharing, and it works both ways: you can
either translate an older or newer release and translations will be shared
in older or newer releases.
