[ubuntu-in] Synaptic error - what to do ??

Hi

recently i downloaded a ttf.liberation.deb file from Red Hat which had
alternate fonts for some common M$ fonts

but while installing it using gdebi some error occurred and now i cannot
open synaptic

this is the errors:
E: The package ttf-liberation needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find
an archive for it.
E: Internal error opening cache (1). Please report.

So what do i do to clear the system and get synaptic back working.
