[lubuntu-devel] Lubuntu-devel Digest, Vol 5, Issue 18

Hi Jim,

I stumbled upon that site when looking around to see if there was a way
lubuntu could have a wiki area that had an ability itself to become a
manual. The last thing I wanted was the headache of two different teams
trying to keep the wiki and the manual in sync with each other! We have
neither the man hours, nor wish to have two teams who are mutually
exclusive in so far as each time anyone updated the wiki, someone would
have to update the manual to keep it up to date.

At that time, we had a fork off the ubuntu manual which we could then
customise. But having seen the infrastructure that is ubuntuguide I could
see the possibility of us using that method instead of having a totally
separate project just for manual. For me, the idea that we only have one
point of reference for the most up to date information rings a far higher
priority over using an established system (the ubuntu manual). That site
shows mediawiki is happy to be XML and also that from that they can publish
a manual. The how's of getting wiki --> manual will need investigation,
that it uses the wiki as the source is what attracted me to the idea.

If we get a few people together under who ever's leadership that they
choose, I'd suggest getting in touch with the gang at
http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/About for information and how to slot in
lubuntu along side the existing ubuntu and kubuntu guides. As we share a
lot of the same basics, it would actually save a heck of a lot of
duplicated work :)

So, those are my thoughts on the matter. I open it up for discussion :!

Regards,

Phill.
