No; the last couple of posts have looked very helpful, though, and as soon
as I can, I intend to follow up on them.
The screensaver idea was particularly intriguing (although it seems
unlikely, because my screensaver simply shows a slideshow pictures at
random from a directory). But it seems intriguing because I can see the
xorg usage grow by several hundred MB overnight, when I'm not doing
anything with the machine.
I am very surprised that other people running dapper amd64 aren't reporting
the same thing. It's not like I'm using any graphics-related software that
isn't in widespread use.
If anything, the symptoms are getting worse (although I don't know why they
should, because I don't think I'm doing anything different). I restarted
the X server early in the morning yesterday, and right now, at the end of
two days' work here, it's sitting at 1.1GB :-( The only thing I can think
of that's a little different is that I'm looking at quite a few (small) PNG
files inside Konqueror in the course of a day.
