I guess it could be an oncoming failure problem, but this only started
happening with breezy, never happened with hoary. The first time I ran
k3b after dist upgrade, it asked me to set certain permissions as root
to insure better burning. Well audio burning works fine, but at only
60% of the previous speed; but I haven't had a successful data burn
since. Could this be related?

Nothing.

Could be. But happens mostly when the drive should be idle. Used to be
able to stop it by keeping the drive empty except when I was using it,
but now it ejects the empty tray, too.
