xfce
$xfwm4
$xfwm4 --daemon [to run as daemon]
What has likely happened is that your xubuntu session is not being
logged in anymore from lightdm (the gui login shell).
So, check first on the status of lightdm, then xubuntu (xfwm4 and
associated xfce apps).
