Thanks.Laptop is Dell Vostro Following website:https://askubuntu.com/questions/648101/how-does-one-install-canon-mg-series-printer-scanner Found debian driver, extracted, but do not know how to install, since command is for Ubuntu, and pasted into terminal, yields "no such file or directory" and I do not know how to translate to Xubuntu: From the website:"Extract the tar.gz file and then run the install.sh file":tar -xvf cnijfilter2-5.00-1-deb.tar.gzcd cnijfilter2-5.00-1-deb./install.sh
Pasted result from my terminal:
tar -xvf cnijfilter2-5.00-1-deb.tar.gz
tar: cnijfilter2-5.00-1-deb.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
rabbit-in-the-titan at rabbitinthetitan-Vostro-1000:~$ cd cnijfilter2-5.00-1-deb
bash: cd: cnijfilter2-5.00-1-deb: No such file or directory
rabbit-in-the-titan at rabbitinthetitan-Vostro-1000:~$ ./install.sh
bash: ./install.sh: No such file or directory
rabbit-in-the-titan at rabbitinthetitan-Vostro-1000:~$
rabbit-in-the-titan is the name of my computerPrinting yields error message:"Could not start printer. Please check your printer configuration"Print queue is blank with nothing highlighted ("greyed out") except close and refresh. Could not install via "Printers Local Host > Change Driver > Provide PPD file > selecting folders extracted from download recommended above. However, now it does say "Connected to Local Host" and when I print it does bring up a printer dialog box, but the printer queue is blank. The disk which came with the printer only has one folder (Win) and searching it yields no Readme file. Any suggestions? P.

Any error messages? When you pull up the print que what is the status of the documents? In my experience Cannon took some work to get it working correctly. On the driver CD or in the driver package (assuming you got one from Cannon) there was usually a Readme file to set up with Linux. Check for that. Also, double check your specific model on Google with something like "Cannon [model] printer on Xubuntu". Someone usually has a write-up step by step having been through this. Without more specifics, model, laptop, any error messages etc. our help is limited but we will help you best we can. -- Fred

I would like to use a Canon printer, which seems (by its set up and view screen) to be working.Just not connected to my laptop.I use 14.04.YoursP.
