Hi all:
I e-mailed earlier about a Lenovo ThinkCentre m58-7373 (4 gig RAM, 3
Mhz Dual Core 2, with SSD and Nvidia graphics card added) that I was
setting up for work. At first, with 16.04.1, fans ran full speed (except
when booting in recovery mode) and shutdown, restart, and suspend/sleep
were broken all the time.
I suspected the problem had something to do with systemd inits not being
as comprehensive as the original upstart system.
I upgraded to 16.10 and started using the Nvidia drivers for the
graphics card. That cured the fan problem.
But, shutdown et al. problems remain. See this pic for what is
happening.

I've looked at various forums and there does not seem to be any obvious
definitive solution. From the screenshot, it looks with the plymouth
daemon is hanging -- i.e., systemd cannot properly stop plymouthd.
Am I right? Am I wrong?
What's the fix?
Thanks,
Victor
