[xubuntu-users] THunar not using the right app to open files

I noticed recently on a couple of my machines running Xubuntu 14.04.4
that Thunar does not run the right app to handle a file.

I just downloaded an MP3, and when I double clicked on the file in
Thunar, it opened Audacity to play the file.

This would be ok with me, except I have the "open with" property set to VLC.

I believe this happened on my home desktop as well, where it attempted
to run something other than VLC to play an MP4 (brasero, maybe? I
don't recall).

Is it just me, or is the latest 14.04.4 Thunar (version 1.6.3) messed up?

This bleeds over into the command line, where xfce4-open also does the
same thing (probably because it is using the Thunar file associations
to decide what app to run).

This is a recent development - I don't recall seeing this happen
before last week.
