[xubuntu-users] grub can't find windows

On an upgrade prior to 14.04, when I upgraded, windows vista was no 
longer in the grub menu.  running fdisk -l show the windows partitions 
for a total of 9 partitions.
Is there a command to recreate the grub menu from the partition table? I 
ran update-grub.  It went through its process but did not show windows.  
I ran, I believe grub-mkconfig, no help either.
