I don't have this laptop but I had an earlier, smaller model in the
same price range (a Thinkpad x121e). I can only tell you three things of
relevance:
- the keyboard had an excellent touch, especially for a laptop that
small (perhaps less impressive for the E450's size)
- the trackpad was very bad but the trackpoint (the tiny red "joystick"
in the middle of the keyboard) is an excellent replacement, so I just
disabled the trackpad to avoid undesired cursor moves when touching it
- beware of screen quality; the LCD display's contrast ratio on the
x121e was really awful, to the point that it hurt my eyes after a few
hours of use (I mean work, not watching movies); reviews for the E450
seem to suggest that the screen isn't very good either...
These days, if I am to shop again for a laptop I definitely put
screen quality into my priority criteria. Many laptops nowadays come
with IPS technology displays which give very good contrast and viewing
angles, which is definitely important if you don't want to tire your
eyes too much.
(as a data point, I currently have a Asus Zenbook with Xubuntu
installed, though my primary work machine is a desktop computer)
Regards
Antoine.
