[xubuntu-users] HP Laserjet 1020 on a USB connection

I have this printer, and it's a huge pain in any OS, especially Linux.

You have to be kind of methodical to make it work.

Try everything in this exact order:

Once your computer is running and you are logged in with the printer
turned off and its USB cable unplugged from the computer:

1) Load paper into the HP LaserJet 1020. Make sure you have enough for
your print job. You might not be able to resume the print job if you
run out of paper

2) Turn on the printer

3) After it "whirs" up, plug the USB cable from the printer into your computer

4) At this point a few seconds will pass, the printer motor will
"whir," and either the system will start configuring your printer, or
you will be ready to print if you did this a previous time.

5) Send documents to the printer. They should print.

I'm not guaranteeing that this will work, but it has worked for me in
the recent past. It's at least worth a try.
