$? No, thank you. I'm not ready to pay for it. :-) Besides, it's too

It looks like Pluma comes with Mate Desktop full install, doesn't it? At 
least 'apt-get install pluma' gives me "Unable to locate package pluma." 
It's a pity, since this is just a forked version of gedit, which I like 
and get used to.

Kate wants to bring the whole KDE here. I would tolerate some libs but 
not the entire thing.

nano and vim are nice and I use them when I need a text editor in TTY. 
However for a daily use I'd prefer a graphical text editor.
