[xubuntu-users] File selection dialogs

I have all my systems set up for single-click, with focus follows mouse
and auto-raise. Works fine at the level of the window manager.

But when I'm in an application and click File|Open (or do something else
requiring a file dialog to open), behaviour reverts to double-click to
navigate directories and select files.

Is there a way to tell the relevant file dialog to use the settings I
have imposed at the upper level?

There are of course several file dialogs that get used by different
applications, presumably according to the set of libraries used to build
the applications. Has there ever been a move towards allowing them (or
encouraging them) to share a system-wide or even just user-wide) set of
behaviour configs?
