As the OP on this thread I have been pleased with the response. For me
Xubuntu is going to be the one to use. But, of course, for other people
with different requirements, some other ones will be better. Xubuntu has
been around for some time now which gives me hope for the future too.
Referring to some of the other comments on this, I am a bit surprised to
hear that some of you have never used Windows. I should not take things
for granted, that will teach me. I started a long time ago (read 1962)
working with mainframes. I went through the days of the early home
computers and finished up with DOS and then Windows.
However the last version I used was Windows 98 for about a year, then I
came to my senses and moved to Linux. So that is 14 years now. And my
wife and daughter also use Xubuntu. (I explain that I can help them with
any problems if they stick with Linux).
I should also add that I find this group very friendly and helpful, so
thanks to you all, and to all the developers etc.
