[xubuntu-users] Software Centre in Xubuntu 13:10 issue

I have an issue with Ubuntu Software Centre in my Xubuntu 13.10 install.
I upgraded from 13.04 (in fact all the way from 12.04 over the past
couple of years) and everything works OK except this. If I click on
Ubuntu Software Centre on the start menu it will open and then disappear
within 5 seconds.

If I start it from a terminal screen here is output I get (below between
the dotted lines). To be honest I don't normally use it that much, only
when I am looking for a bit of software to accomplish something I am doing.

Is this a bug? Is it a simple fix?

This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)'.

   (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
    that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
    To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
    variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
    backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error()
