I used to hate pulse audio and now I wouldn't live without it. Just make 
sure that you have pavucontrol installed and use that for configuration 
instead of a desktop centric tool. Pulse sits on top of alsa. So also 
install alsamixer if pulse is failing you. Set alsa correctly, pulse can 
then do it's job of routing things, which is all it does. Alsa is still 
the audio scheme. If alsa has something muted, pulse is a dead parrot. 
What pulse is handy for is sending the audio out signal to whatever 
output you want, on the fly.

Once you get the hang of it, it is better than anything Windows has, 
IMHO. Ric
