xfce desktop with no login" ??? could you please explain more so that I/we

Hi,

If this isn't the best list please refer me to a better one.

I've installed xubuntu 12.04.1 onto a Compaq Presario SR5130NX box with
onboard nVisia GeFores 6150SE graphics adapter. Because the users are kids
I opted in setup to boot straight to the xfce desktop with no login.
Everyhing is fine until the desktop (should) appear, at which point the
monitor, an Acer AL1916W, complains, saying, "Input Not Supported." I
suspect that the monitor is being sent a higher resolution image than it
can display hence the error message.

I don't see how to intervene to go to a lower res, the boot process seems
seamless right up to the error message. Ideas? References?

Dave
