Also, just to make sure its not a simple settings issue, in Thunar 1.6.3...

1) 'menu bar' View-->Location Selector--> 'Pathbar Style' or 'Toolbar Style'
2) 'menu bar' Edit-->Preferences-->Display Tab-->Default View-->Show
Thumbnails
3) Not sure, unless you've hidden the hidden files.  CTRL-H to view
hidden files
