Strictly speaking the device naming is handled by udev, so you can
edit /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules to change the device
names in 10.04.

I don't have a whole lot of WLAN experience since mine "just works" so
others may have suggestions as to why you ended up with a _renamed
interface and a better way to fix it.
