This can take some time, especially on a low bandwidth line.  IIRC you can abort the download and continue the installation but, it isn’t very obvious.

The slow first boot is due to ureadahead running for the first time and creating a profile.  I think you may get this occasionally later, though not as noticeable, when it does a re-profile and  also after certain updates.  As it generally speeds things up it is a small price to pay.
