Thanks, read about your LEAN Ubuntu.
My problem is after the minimal install, on the terminal and how to enable the wired connection using the PCMCIA slot. I install the minimal ubuntu using an external cd rom attached thru that same PCMCIA slot. Been days since im reading and trying to do it but no success yet. any help?

There is a "command line only" install option on the alternate CD.
Install that, then run:
sudo apt-get install xfce4 xfce4-goodies gdm
Then any other packages you need. That will give you a really light
weight "xubuntu" so to speak. You'll want to use the wired connection
initially then switch to wireless.
