[xubuntu-users] Xubuntu Karmic minimall install?

Make sure the network device is plugged in prior to turning on the machine.
Then, log into the console and run:

sudo ifconfig -a

You should see an eth0 device, or something similar.  If you have a dhcp
server on your network, run:

sudo dhclient eth0

Where eth0 is the network device listed in the ifconfig output.  After that
you should be on the network.  I recommend installing the following:

sudo apt-get install xfce4 xfce4-goodies gdm network-manager-gnome

Don't be afraid of the "gnome" part.  The network-manager-gnome uses very
little gnome libs.  After those packages install, reboot, and you will have
a very minimal gui.
