I wrote too quickly. When the system is booted back in the den it shows
78-88% strength but drops packets like crazy. Ah, well. Back to trying to
fix this.

Yes, this works. It's an unmarked, small, white disk that brings up the
reboot, shut down, suspend, or hibernate menu.
