This has been, for me at least, a problem in for the last two
iterations of Ubuntu. I found this on a search online, and it has
worked for me, so far:

cp /etc/network/interfaces ~/Desktop
sudo rm -rf /etc/network/interfaces
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
sudo ifconfig eth0 up
sudo dhclient eth0

If it works, good luck. Best I know of...
