If you are on dapper edit /usr/share/gdm/themes/xubuntu/Xubuntu.xml with root privileges. 
At line 120 in the password bix entry there's the username label. I made the color 0xffffff
but since you can modify in place and then run
$gdmthemetester flexi xubuntu
and see the result, you maybe have other ideas to make the colors in that screen fit better together. 
If not I'll just upload the white username fix.

    Thanks for the info. I could change the username and password text to white and it looks much better.
    I also recommend changing the Language and the Session font colors to:
    
    Normal:#ffffff
    Prelight:#c1ddf2
    Active:#ffffff
    
    This way all text will be white.
    
    Otherwise, everything looks great. 
    
    Reminder:
    Dont forget to change the color of the spinning animation logo to reflect the default color shcme and the color of the mouse to black. Also the background color of the animation.
