[ubuntu-za] Old(ish) Laptop

I have an oldish (2006) Lenova Thinkpad laptop which I am thinking of
upgrading from XP to Ubuntu. It has a fairly decent configuration: Intel
Core 2 Duo CPU T7300 @ 2.00 GHz 777 MHz 0.99 GB of RAM. 80 GB drive.

What flavour of Ubuntu would you recommend? I would prefer a full Ubuntu
system using Unity but am worried that I might be pushing too hard. I have
run Xubuntu happily in the past but have no experience of any of the other
possibilities.
