[ubuntu-za] Problems since last round of "major" updates

Robin, for what it's worth, I also did the recent updates running on
Ubuntu 12.04, my Libre office seems fine. My USB external hard drive is
also working fine. Somebody more au fait than I might be able to comment
as to whether the problem is not related to the updates and if so, what
the cause might be.
