(application screen greys and mouse clicks have no effect within the application) I've been using Ubuntu& Gimp for my photo editing for years, and this is the first time that I've experienced this problem. Not sure if this is the same problem, but it looks and feels similar.

This causes errors when I un/install applications. I suppose it is conceivable that it is causing other problems as well.

Hi Tim,
2GB of RAM. Photo size varies from relatively small (under 1MB) jpegs,
to RAW files of 80MB or so. Number of layers, etc., also varies greatly.
However, file size/layers/etc has no effect on the problem within Gimp.
It happens to the same extent on small files as large. Also, its only a
small number of the tools - Colour Levels being the most common, and
which comes to mind - that give the problem. The rest of the time
everything is fine. Also doesn't matter how many other apps I have
running at the time. Neither do I have the problem when using digiKam or
RawTherapee.
Robin
