Hi Robin, I saw your post a while ago, but did not have any ideas on what
causes this.

An old PC heh? What monitor is hooked up to the PC, an old CRT monitor? It
could be the refresh rate is set too high, the monitor can't handle it and
that's causing the flicker. If there's any way you can show us what it looks
like?

A refresh rate of 75Hz+ is ideal, but for older monitors 50Hz-60Hz would
work better. Check in the main Ubuntu menu System -> Preferences -> Display.


If you can swap the monitor out for another newer model to see if that
works, and if it does not work then the graphics card could be damaged.
Generally SVGA drivers pick up okay so let's assume the driver is fine until
we can eliminate hardware failure.
