Hi Ian

#1 What sound hardware do you have? It's also dependant on that. Sorry to
hear it broke in 9.10 though, regressions aren't very nice. You can find
your hardware in a terminal with **:

sudo *lshw -class sound*

#2 If you start OO from a terminal, and get it to crash, you will see some
output that could hint as to what is wrong.
