Subject: [ubuntu-za] freelug.org.za/flug.org.za participation

Greetings my fellow Ubunteros and Linux users!

After the success of the past Jaunty Release Party in Bloemfontein, I
have been playing around with the idea of reviving http://flug.org.za
which only points to netcons.co.za. However, I do recall that a couple
of years ago, flug was active, but I was inexperienced and didn't think
it will mean anything to join such group. Now, on the other hand, the
best possible way is to breathe new life into the Free State.

I have been in contact with several persons regarding linux users groups
in Bloemfontein (and surrounding areas) and there seem to be many more
users and interested parties. Only in Bloemfontein I have located more
users that I have not known of previously. So in the end, I do believe
that the Free State on its own will have a community that can be active
in their own areas.

The suggestion of "freelug" came from MshiniWami in the #ubuntu-za IRC
channel on freenode.net. It works on many levels: Free and Open
Software, Free State, Free Software Foundation etc. Since flug.org.za is
already available, we could stick with that for a while.

I have no idea how this will go in the future, but I do know that we
have to make a start (like the release party was a start). It will be
hard work and any collaborators will be welcome, so this posting is
actually an invitation to anyone out there, or rather here in the Free
State, to notify me if you are interested in participating.

At present I am researching all connections to flug (and there are a
couple of international links to http://flug.org.za) and where I can,
get hold of the people knowing anything about it.

Please note that this will on no level replace any existing user groups,
but rather be a place to gather smaller groups in a larger area.

Kind Regards,
Johan Mynhardt
