Several wireless card will not work without a download that is 
restricted in distribution. For example, the Dells with broadcoms need a 
bios, and there is a no-redistribution clause in the EULA.  So you may 
need to download something.  Have you tried the Restriceted Driver 
Manager to see if it finds it?  If so, we need to know what you have. 
How about the output of lspci?
