Hi Bill

Intrepid doesn't have OO 3 either, since it released too late to be
tested enough for Intrepid.

Secondly, to upgrade to Intrepid you should already be up to date with
Hardy. Upgrading without installing all the current updates isn't
recommended. You could install from the Intrepid alternate disk, which
would upgrade the packages which are installed by default, using the
CD, but would need to download Intrepid packages for anything you have
installed subsequently.

Here's a PPA repository for OO3 on Intrepid or Hardy:

You could download the deb file from openoffice.org, but the Ubuntu
versions (including the PPA) of OO have patches to integrate it better
with the GNOME desktop. If you do want to download the deb, then make
sure you first uninstall all the OO 2.4 packages you have installed.

Regards
Morgan
