For most editing projects I just use Gimp (just search for "gimp" in
the software center). If I need a vector graphics program I use
Inkscape (also in the software center).

They both look a bit complicated, but if you focus on basic editing it
tends to be pretty straight forward, and you're welcome to ask
questions here.
