[UbuntuWomen] Small Image Editing Frustration

I'm new to Ubuntu. I tried it years before, forgot my password and went back
to Windows again. This time I deleted Windows and am running on Ubuntu
alone. Which is fine but for small things I took for granted. Like my
favourite, trusty image editing software. I have been using Microsoft's
FrontPage Image Composer for years and been very happy with it. Mainly I
need it to edit my drawings which I scan and then trim and shrink. Sometimes
I erase an extra pen mark and add text. So I don't need something fancy and
complicated to get what I want.

Does anyone know something that would work for me with Ubuntu? I tried Pinta
and have been working for half an hour trying to work on an image I scanned.
I was glad my old scanner worked but from there I have been nothing but
frustrated. I don't see a guide to using Pinta and it really does seem to be
more than I want. I have never figured out layers and would be happy to not
get into that until I have time to put into another learning project.

Anyway, I would love something simple to edit my hand drawn scans into web
graphics.

Thanks,

Laura
