Completely agree. Ignoring it may be the the easiest and most
comfortable option from a personal perspective, but if  this behaviour
is ignored
(a) the culprit is not made aware of how anti-social their actions
(and attitudes) are,
(b) other people who would not dream of behaving in such a way are not
aware that there is a problem,
(c) there is no deterrent for any others who may think that such
behaviour is acceptable.
