removing wslview from Ubuntu-only computers?

Greetings,
while using Obsidian (note taking software) on Ubuntu 22.04 I noticed that it cannot open links to local files, so I asked for help on the Obsidian forum:

https://forum.obsidian.md/t/how-to-open-with-default-app-pdf-or-other-files-outside-the-vault/57087/4 (https://forum.obsidian.md/t/how-to-open-with-default-app-pdf-or-other-files-outside-the-vault/57087/4)

I now ask here because, after further testing and googling, it seems the problem is that Obsidian uses wslview instead of stuff like xdg-open to open files. For details and full error message, see my last comment in the link above. So...

1) why on Earth should an Ubuntu-only box use wslview, or even have it installed in the first place? Is this by chance related to/the same as this bug here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemsettings/+bug/1978842 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemsettings/+bug/1978842)
2) anyway, since at this point I am not sure I could just uninstall wslview without making things worst (because this is a system-wide Ubuntu/Linux problem, Obsidian is just the way I discovered it)... what is the solution here? Thoughts? Similar experiences?
TIA,Marco
