The problem now, appears to be Catch-22.

After all of the problems involved, and, the UEFI not working to let 
Linux install its EFI stuff, Linux now appears to be working (at least 
for the present), but, MS Windows no longer can be accessed, and, the 
system BIOS/UEFI is so far out of date, that it needs to be updated 
(which might help the problem with the Linux EFI, if the system 
BIOS/UEFI is updated (?) ), but, in thinking about it, the hardware 
manufacturers are so enslaved to Microsoft, that they do not provide for 
BIOS/UEFI to be updated, other than through MS Windows (which, is now, 
on the applicable computer, no longer accessible).

Catch-22, I think.
