No, true whatever your needs are, you still need to decide how to do
your backups. If you don't decide then you won't have any backups!

So what? That makes no difference at all. It may make it easier to do
some things than if the NAS wasn't Linux based but it still begs the
question - how are you going to do the backups? What program[s] are
you aiming to use to do the backups? The NAS may influence this of
course but it's the sort of backup strategy you want that should then
show you what sort of NAS you want.
